Chesapeake Public Schools families will get a longer 2026 Thanksgiving break after the School Board voted to convert an early-release day into a full day off.

The board unanimously approved the calendar change at its Thursday, Oct. 29 meeting, according to a district announcement published Friday, Oct. 30.

Wednesday, Nov. 25, had been scheduled as an early-release day but will now be a full closure. All schools and administrative offices will be closed through Friday, Nov. 27, for the holiday.

Combined with the weekend of Nov. 28–29, that gives students and staff five consecutive days away from school. Schools and offices will reopen Monday, Nov. 30.

Two more November closures

The district also reminded families of two other closures earlier in the month:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 3: Schools are closed for all students for Election Day. The day is a teacher workday.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11: All schools and administrative offices are closed for Veterans Day.

Families can find the full schedule of upcoming dates on the district's updated calendar.
