Hickory Middle School in Chesapeake has introduced a Breakfast Club program that gives students who eat school breakfast a chance to win free snacks and a monthly grand prize.

The school announced the program Thursday, Oct. 29.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, five students will find prize tokens randomly placed in their breakfast trays or grab-and-go bags.

Students who receive a token can bring it to the cafeteria during lunch and select one free à la carte item: chips, ice cream or a cookie.

At the end of each month, the school will also hide one golden coin in a breakfast tray or grab-and-go bag.

The student who finds the golden coin will receive what the school describes as a special grand prize. The announcement did not specify the prize.

The program gives students an added incentive to participate in school breakfast.
